SpecTec Cruise is now Veridian A new name for the No.1 in cruise asset management

Our History

Veridian has a proud history spanning 40 years of leadership and innovation.

Our Journey
1985

How it started

Veridian’s foundations stem from a small business established in Oslo, called SpecTec Consult AS. Building on previous manual systems, its founders had a vision to automate on-board maintenance management – which later became AMOS™, the world’s first computerized system specific to the maritime industry.

1985 - 1991

Global Expansion

SpecTec expanded rapidly, opening offices in Sweden, Italy, UK, Benelux, Singapore, Hong Kong, the USA and Germany.

1998 - 1999

Growing through acquisition

In the late 90s, SpecTec acquired several leading marine technology businesses including Marinor, MMS and SAMA.

2000

The Xantic years

SpecTec was sold to KPN a Netherlands-based telecoms provider, and renamed Xantic, to form a marine division.

2005

SpecTec is re-born

The Xantic marine division is acquired through a management buyout and becomes SpecTec again, by which time the company had 25 office locations around the world, with presence in 16 countries.

2007

Idea Acquisition- Superyachts

During 2007, SpecTec acquired Idea Data Solutions, a business that provides similar software solutions to AMOS™ but specifically for the superyacht market. Today Idea are still the market leader, based in Dusseldorf Germany.

2012

Volaris Ownership

In 2012 the SpecTec management team sold 100% of the business to Volaris Group. Volaris are a buy and hold acquirer, part of the Canadian software company Constellation Software Inc (CSI), listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Volaris acquire and hold forever, applying best practice to grow vertical market software businesses sustainably.

2018

Focussing in on Cruise

SpecTec Cruise – our original name – was established in 2018 as a separate business from its shipping market-focused sister company (SpecTec Shipping). This enabled us to fully focus on the growing and vibrant cruise industry. During this period we undertook significant projects with Royal Caribbean Group and Carnival Corporation for fleetwide standardization, enabling the business to grow rapidly.

2020-2022

The Covid Years

A period that showed true resilience and partnership, as COVID shut down all cruise company operations resulting in a complete loss of revenue. We worked in partnership with our cruise customers to support them through these challenging times. We’re proud of the resilience shown by the people in our company and on our working closely with customers even in challenging times – and the opportunity to work on numerous operational restart projects was a real privilege.

2024

Record Results & AMOS-X is released

This year produced record business results across all units, a testament to our customer-focused approach, and Seatrade 2024 saw the release of AMOS™-X, the next generation AMOS™ application – modern, web-based and designed specifically for cruise operators.

2025
